'Tits McGee is on Vacation'

Looking for a laugh?
Horrible clip art from patient pamphlets
can provide endless entertainment.
Not sure what's wrong with this lady,
but she's clearly worse off than I am.
Cancer is full of silver linings. Just ask anyone who’s been diagnosed with it.
I’ve just started the journey, but for me, it’s already made the beauty in life’s little things all the more apparent. Especially laughter. My laughter seems to come from a deeper place now—gut-busting and enough to test the limits of my post-two-kids pelvic floor muscles.
Take the naming of this blog, for example.
A few nights ago, I was upstairs, with my laptop perched precariously on the bed, trying to come up with a name for it. All the “fuck cancer” ones seemed to be taken. As I was Googling “slang for breasts” and trying to figure out how “badoinkees,” “chesticles” and “wopbopaloobops” might work in a Web address, my husband, Salvatore, bounded up the stairs.  I could tell he was super proud of something and was about to unleash some awesomeness on me.
“Did you come up with a name for your blog yet?” he asked.
“Not yet.”
“I think I came up with a good one.”
 I waited for it.
“Tits McGee is on Vacation,” he announced triumphantly.
It was a nod to this scene in “Anchorman:The Legend or Ron Burgundy” and a quote from the movie’s fictional character Veronica Corningstone, played by Christina Applegate—a double mastectomy, BRCA-postive, breast cancer gal herself in real life.
I laughed good and hard over his contribution and immediately felt a thousand times lighter.
“No?” he said.
In the end I obviously settled on Breaking Breast Cancer, a nod to the cult TV hit “Breaking Bad.” I want to attract people interested in reading about the breast cancer experience, of course, but if I snagged some misdirected fans of the AMC show—maybe even some errant meth addicts—that would be OK, too.
We don’t discriminate here.

  2. Sal did, too. I thought maybe the reference was too obscure. Ha ha!
